As we are a developing organization, we are hoping to provide comprehensive direct services to those with acute and chronic illness. The following is a list of patient services we currently offer, as well as those we will be developing and providing in the near and distant future.
Please call or email for more details.
We currently answer calls and emails from patients with chronic illness, as well as their caregivers, and assist them with finding resources in their area, including doctors, support groups, organic food markets, and any other resources they need to successfully manage their illness and lives. After an assessment of your needs and preferences, we will help connect you to healthcare and allied health professionals in our referral network.
**Please note there is a nominal cost per referral to cover any research we must do to locate them and also to cover costs Patient Allies must pay to access professional credentializing databases and information.
We are NOT professional counselors or therapists but can certainly lend a listening ear to those who call us. We find that most patients are pretty resourceful on their own, however many are dealing with extreme fatigue and other symptoms which can greatly impeed their ability to navigate the system, so they just need some guidance and motivation and to be pointed in the right direction. We will NEVER recommend doctors, treatments, or services, whether or not we have had direct experience with them. (This is why we require all patients to complete our agreement form prior to working with us. We simply provide resources and encourage patients to thoroughly research them before using them.
We are also currently in the process of putting together a FREE comprehenive online list of organizations, books, and other helpful resources we find helpful to many patients. We have begun to compile this list on our Resources page. Though, referrals to specific practitioners and other resources specific to your situation will continue to carry a small fee.
Patient Allies leads "The Chronic Illness Friendship Network", a a social, informal support, and resource group for those living with chronic illness in the Phoenix, AZ area. For those outside the area, we will be offering online groups for now. This group is currently and haitus and is being re-developed. Please check back for more information.
WE PROVIDE INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP PATIENT EDUCATION ON MANY ASPECTS OF LIVING WITH CHRONIC ILLNESS AND BEING A RESOURCEFUL PATIENT, INCLUDING AND NOT LIMITED TO:
Disease Management , Diet and nutrition (gluten free, dairy free, candida diet, etc), Coping with illness, Communicating with Doctors, Navigating the healthcare system, going back to work with a chronic illness, balancing acute and chronic health issues with other responsibilities, how to manage free time, locating free events while on a budget, explaining chronic illness to friends, co-workers, and family...
and many more.....
We will also develop custom tailored patient education on topics of special interest to you upon request. **As noted on our fees page, there is a fee for patient education sessions, however they can be reduced by attending group education events or gathering other patients, friends, and/or family together to learn with you.
With the abundance of health information out there today, it is often very difficult for someone without medical knowledge or experience with the healthcare system to decipher it. We assist you with researching your diagnosis, treatments, and other often confusing medical information related to your condition. We can educate you on trustworthy sources of medical information on the net versus stuff that is often inaccurate and cannot be trusted. We also help locate any clinical trials, professional research articles, and other information you might need and present it to you in a way that is easy to understand.
We match newly diagnosed patients dealing with chronic illness or acute medical issues with those who have been living with a similar illness successfully. The seasoned patient serves as a "mentor" for the newly diagnosed and help them navigate the system as well as provide peer support. Communication takes place either via email, phone, and/or in person depending on each person's circumstances and preferences. Efforts are made to match patients of a similar age range with some other factors in common, such as interests, marital status, location, and other issues that affect successful management of chronic or acute illness as well as enhance the social and supportive relationship.
We know all too well what it's like to be in the hospital and not have anyone to visit you or advocate for you. Whenever feasible (depending on our availability and the distance of your hospital), we will come to visit you and assist you in any way we can with your hospital stay through advocating, bringing you necessary items, etc.
